Standard Mileage Rate

Standard Mileage Rate

This is the per mile rate that can be used in lieu of actual expenses when using a vehicle for a deductible purpose. For 2016, the cents per mile rates are: 54.0 for business use and 19.0 for moving and medical use. For charity travel the cents per mile rate is 14.0. Parking expenses can be taken in addition to the standard mileage rate. Self-employed individuals can also add the business portion of the interest expense to acquire the vehicle. The standard rate can be used for up to four vehicles being used simultaneously. At the time this article was updated, the 2017 mileage rates had not been published, but will be similar to the 2016 rates.
